A spokesman for Swale council's stray dog service said: "After a trip to the vets it was discovered that, as well as the extreme damage to his tail, he has numerous cuts and abrasions and was suffering from both fleas and worms.

"He's since received treatment for parasites and is starting a strong course of antibiotics and pain relief.

"Sadly, the damage to his tail is so severe that it will need amputating in the near future.

"He's got such a wonderful temperament and was doing his utmost to sit on our warden's lap in the waiting room."

A spokesman for the authority said: “We took Clancy to Bobbing Hill Vets who treated his wounds and gave him antibiotics, pain relief and parasite treatment.

“Unfortunately, the wounds on Clancy’s tail were too severe to be treated and it will now need to be removed.

“We’re moving him to a rescue, so he can continue to receive the care he needs.”
