A pensioner's fight to get free train travel for over-60s is going all the way to the top.

After 14 months, Harry Farrow has collected 10,000 signatures allowing him to take his petition to Downing Street.

The 64-year-old from Kemsley will make his way to Number 10 on August 26 and will be accompanied by MP Gordon Henderson, and brother-in-law Alan Wood.

He said: "I’m a bit apprehensive about it all. I don’t know if David Cameron will come out but I might be lucky."

Despite drawing a pension, Mr Farrow has funded the campaign himself even selling his beloved toy soldier collection to raise cash.

The retired painter and decorator said: "I’d been collecting for about 12 years. The thing is I had no money coming in so in the end they had to go as the ‘money’ was sitting in boxes under the stairs. What’s a toy soldier at the end of the day? I got about £1,100 for them, most of which went into funding the campaign.

"It’s a good cause and it’s not going to go away. I’m just grateful to everyone who has supported me."
