Sheppey-bound Grovehurst roundabout slip road closure delayed for two weeks

A slip road which was supposed to shut this week has now been delayed.

The Sheppey-bound entry slip road closure at Grovehurst junction near Sittingbourne was planned to start from 6pm on Wednesday (September 6).

This was to allow work to take place on a multi-million pound revamp for the roundabout.

The £32.7 million project was given the green light by county councillors in March 2022.

It will involve closing parts of the roundabout, including sections of the road leading up to it.

The Sheppey-bound slip and exit slip road closure was set to stay in place until December.

Councillor James Hunt (Con) posted a message on Facebook tonight, advising motorists that this has now changed.

“I have today spoken to Jackson Civil Engineering, who are undertaking the A249 Grovehurst Junction improvements,” he said.

“The slip roads should have closed this week, but that has obviously not happened.”

He says the works have now been rescheduled for Friday, September 22 – more than two weeks later than anticipated.

Cllr Hunt added: “Signs have gone up but KCC hasn't approved the press release, so Jackson have been unable to give out information.

“It would have been better for people to know what's going on, but that's KCC for you.

“The details will be agreed on Monday and I will share information as soon as I have it.”
