A man has been taken to hospital after a fire broke out at a house in Rodmersham.

Six appliances, one height vehicle and one command support unit were initially called to the address in Fruiterers Close, Rodmersham, at 2.40pm today (Sunday).

At its height 40 firefighters tackled the blaze using using four sets of breathing apparatus, two main jets, two hose reels and a hydrant.

The number of fire engines at the scene has since been reduced to three.

It's believed the fire started on the ground floor but quickly spread to the first floor and roof space.

The man was taken to hospital suffering with a supposed heart problem.

His condition is currently not known.

It is unclear whether anyone else was in the house at the time of the fire.

Swale council has been notified to attend the address and board the property up once the scene is clear.
