Two-minute silences will be held at 11am at various locations around the town and surrounding villages on Sunday.

The main remembrance service will be held the Sittingbourne war memorial, Central Avenue, 10.20am for 10.45am, and will be led by the reader Pat Tatchell.

Swale mayor Cllr Sue Gent, accompanied by mayoral cadet, Sgt Jake Hanley, of Kent Army Cadet Force, Sittingbourne detachment, will lay a wreath.

After the service, the Mayor and a representative from The Royal British Legion will take the salute as the parade marches past.

Other services and Acts of Remembrance will take place at the following places and times:

  • Church of St Peter and St Paul, Borden, 9.45am, the parish eucharist, followed by an Act of Remembrance at the war memorial taken by Father John Lewis;
  • Church of St Mary the Virgin, Newington, 10.15am, morning prayer will be followed by an Act of Remembrance at 11am taken by lay readers Amanda Lane and Lis Wilmett;
  • Church of St Mary the Virgin, Upchurch, 10.15am, a service will be taken by the Reverend Jacky Davis with an Act of Remembrance at 11am;
  • Church of St Michael and All Angels, Hartlip, 10.15am, a service and Act of Remembrance at 11am will be taken by the churchwarden, Irene Milton;
  • St Margaret’s Church, Lower Halstow, 10.30am, the service will be taken by Alan Swift;
  • All Saints Church, Iwade, 10.45am, a service of morning prayer, with an Act of Remembrance at 11am, led by Captain Stephen Plumb;
  • Holy Trinity Church, Milton Regis, 10am, the service will be taken by the Rev George Rogers;
  • All Saints Church, Murston, 10am, lay reader Heather Thompson will take the service followed by an Act of Remembrance at the war memorial outside at 11am;
  • St Giles Church, Tonge, 10.30am, a service will be taken by lay reader Janet Beale;
  • St Mary’s Church, Teynham, 10.45am, the Rev Steve Lillicrap will officiate;
  • St Laurence Church, Bapchild, 10.30am, the service will be taken by the Rev Lesley Jones.
