Sittingbourne and Sheppey MP Gordon Henderson on Corbyn's first PMQs

Sittingbourne and Sheppey MP Gordon Henderson believes new Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn will have “trouble” facing David Cameron during Prime Minister’s Questions.

Mr Henderson is due to ask the first backbench question in today’s much-anticipated Common’s debate.

But the Conservative has said he does not think newly-elected Mr Corbyn will perform well when facing the Prime Minister.

He said: “I would not want to criticise any member of any other party, but from an outsider’s point of view, I would have felt that Jeremy Corbyn would have had trouble facing Ed Miliband, and Ed Miliband himself had trouble facing David Cameron.

“Jeremy Corbyn has principles though, which might discomfort the Prime Minister.”

He added that contrary to rumours, no Conservative MPs had been briefed on how to behave when Mr Corbyn makes his first outing behind the dispatch box, saying: “There has certainly been no action by the whips’ office to encourage colleagues to take any particular stance.”
