Four vehicle crash at the Key Street roundabout, Sittingbourne between A2 Keycol Hill and junction 5 of the M2 causes traffic delays

A pile-up involving four vehicles caused major delays for rush-hour drivers this morning.

The accident, which happened on the A249 near the slip road that leads traffic from the Key Street roundabout in Sittingbourne to the Maidstone-bound carriageway, involved three cars and a motorcycle.

The A249 was closed southbound between the Key Street roundabout and the M2 from just after 8am until 10am, when traffic started to ease.

There were also long delays on the M2 near junction 5 for Sittingbourne and Maidstone.

Police spokesman Carly Wymark said: "Kent Police was called at 8.08am to a report of a collision on Key Street, Sittingbourne.

"The incident, which happened near the A249 roundabout, is reported to have involved four vehicles, including a motorcycle.

"At this stage, any injuries are thought to be minor."

Ambulance spokesman Rich Airey added: "SECAmb was called shortly after 8am this morning to reports of an RTC involving a motorbike and a car near the Key Street roundabout.

"One ambulance crew attended the scene. The male motorcyclist, aged in his 40s, was assessed and treated at the scene for injuries including a suspected leg injury before being taken to Medway Maritime Hospital."
