Main refuse and recycling collections across Swale returned to normal today (Monday).

Few collections were undertaken last Thursday and Friday after the service was suspended due to the weather conditions.

A spokesman for the council said: "Services recommenced today and we are endeavouring to collect from as many properties as is possible.

"Those green bin collections missed prior to Thursday and Friday are our top priority.

"For this week every endeavour will be made to collect your refuse or recycling on the normal due date.

"The current message is leave your refuse or recycling out and we will get to you as soon as possible. We will take excess with green bins for the time being.

"Please rest assured we will do all we can to provide a service to all properties in the days ahead. We are in contact with the Met Office and are monitoring the position. Our plan of operation is obviously weather-dependent but our aim is to clear all overdue collections as soon as possible."

The collection of brown bins which contain garden waste, is suspended until Monday, January 25. Subscriptions will be adjusted.

Meanwhile due to the shortage of grit car parks across the borough have not been gritted.

A spokesman said: "Please take extreme care when driving and walking through the car parks as conditions are very dangerous."
