Rooftop rescue cats found 'loving' home

by Stephen Waite

Two kittens born in a chimney pot on a Sittingbourne pub have been rehomed.

The pair and their mother had been living precariously on the roof of the Ypres Tavern in West Street.

One of the kittens, a tabby, fell in May, prompting a rescue mission which saw a firefighter carry its brother to safety.

They were reunited with their mother, who had avoided attempts to grab her and had to be trapped instead.

The kittens were taken to the RSPCA’s centre in Brighton and on Sunday they were picked up by their new owner, Rosemary King, from Hove. The mother was to be rehomed separately.

Rosemary’s lodger, Kenneth Phelps, said they were pleased to home such celebrities.

He said: "Rose was especially taken by these two. They are absolutely lovely. They will be very much loved and looked after."

As well as a new home, they also have a new identity. The tabby is called Fred, after Fred Astaire, and his brother is Pangor.
