BAFTA winning Brenda Blethyn in Broadstairs Christmas lights switch on

BAFTA award-winning actress Brenda Blethyn is the star attraction at this year’s Christmas lights switch-on in Broadstairs.
The Ramsgate resident, who also scored Golden Globe and Academy Award nominations for her role in the 1996 film Secrets and Lies, will turn the seaside town into a winter wonderland when she throws the light switch in Pierremont Park this Sunday (December 6) at 4.15pm.
The fun starts hours earlier, with a snow machine, stalls and entertainment throughout the town from 11am.
No fewer than four brass bands will be playing a medley of festive favourites, while the kmfm roadshow -- a huge hit when it rolled into Westwood Cross for the shopping centre’s recent Christmas event -- will be providing entertainment all afternoon. Breakfast presenter Johnny Lewis will be warming up the crowds and the radio station’s ground crew will be handing out free goodies.
The packed programme of events also includes a carol parade, which will wind its way through the streets before arriving at the Christmas tree in Pierremont Park in time for the switch-on, also attended by local dignitaries, including the Mayor of Broadstairs, Cllr Mave Saunders.
Visitors can even take part in a treasure hunt, supported by a number of local shops and businesses.
