Food Standards Agency gives Pilgrims Hospice Thanet poor one-star rating for hygiene

Pilgrims Hospice Thanet has promised major improvements after scoring one out of five stars in a food hygiene inspection.

The report by the Food Standards Agency was published two days ago and pinpointed deficiencies in hygiene, structural and management categories.

Pilgrims Hospices is a registered charity providing care to patients with life-threatening illnesses and their families across east Kent.

Pilgrims Hospices chief executive Cate Russell said: "Following a low score by the Food Standards Agency for our Thanet hospice catering we can confirm this mainly relates to administrative and management systems – patients are not at risk.

"Management intervention is already underway and any shortcomings are being addressed as a priority."

As well as the Margate site, the charity also has hospices in Ashford and Canterbury.

The latest inspections gave Ashford three out of five stars, meaning standards are "generally satisfactory" and Canterbury has a "very good" rating of five.
