Margate Pride to return in August across the town

Get those rainbow flags at the ready as Margate Pride is set to return this summer.

Amy Redmond, a director of Margate Pride, said: "Now in our third year, we're here, we're queer and we're getting a lot of cheer.

"We're a group of artists of all ages, genders, sexualities.

"We started Margate Pride because we knew we needed it.
"We lost of young member of our community this year to suicide, this is not ok."

Saturday's event is the centrepiece of a week long festival of arts.

Amy added: "Our pride is a week long festival of arts, with events ranging from banner making workshops in retirement homes, drag queen story time for families, queer film nights, Ana Matronic DJing and Matthew Todd reading from his award winning book.

"We aim to do something for everyone, and if anyone feels not represented we ask them to get in touch, because pride is for the whole community.

"We strive to be free entry, and free from excessive corporate branding."

At 2pm on Saturday, August 11, the march will leave Walpole Bay Hotel lawns. This will then be followed by a rally at 3pm on Margate main sands seafront on Marine Drive.

Speakers include Sue Sanders of LGBT history months, Lady Phyll of UK Black Pride and Charlie Craggs - writer of My Trans Sisters.

A street party will then grip the town from 3-6pm in the centre of Margate - with DJs, performers and live music.

Ana Matronic will headline Dreamland's Sunset Session at 6pm.

At Sundowners, there will be drag shows and DJs all day and night.

An after party, Cockles and Muscles, will be held from 9pm-late at Lido Cliff Bar.
