In a post describing the incident at a checkout, a woman writes: "Just saw the nicest thing in Asda, a lady at the till next to the one I was at had to ask the cashier to remove the last item as it came to more than she thought and didn't quite have enough.

"Then an older man dropped a £5 note behind her and said 'excuse me love I think you dropped some money.'

"She said it wasn't hers and he smiled and said 'well finders keepers as they say, it isn't mine so may as well be yours.'

"It covered the last bit of shopping that she was short by.

"He saw me looking and winked and went back to reading his paper in the queue – what a lovely man."

It follows an incident earlier this year, also in Thanet, when a woman was left in shock after a stranger paid for her shopping in a random act of kindness at Aldi in Ramsgate.

Emma Morris had unloaded her trolley when the man offered to cover the cost without explanation.

She wrote on Facebook: "I didn’t know how to react due to shock but I am so grateful. You made my day."
