Ramsgate face Steve Lovell’s old club tonight after a flying start to the new season.

The Rams, 3-0 winners over Cray Valley in their opening game in Isthmian South East on Saturday, visit Sittingbourne.

Lovell had three spells as Brickies boss and is looking forward to the Kent derby at Woodstock.

He said: “It’ll be a tough game because they’ve signed some good players and they were unlucky on Saturday to lose to Whitehawk (2-1 defeat with 10 men).

“It’ll be a different kind of game to Cray Valley.

“We’ll have a go, it’s a local derby and it’s nice to play against all the Kent sides.

"They’re nip-and-tuck, these games, there’s a lot of Kent sides, and a lot of them are going to go for it this year.

“It’s a tough league, with some good managers out there, managing good clubs, well-run clubs, all with goals of being successful.”

Returning striker Jordan Chiedozie scored an early penalty against the Millers and Josh Ajayi struck twice in the second half as Ramsgate made an impressive start to the season.

Three-nil looks a convincing scoreline but Rams were made to work hard for the points by last season’s play-off semi-finalists.

“It was convincing in the end but the first half was a very tough game for us - I thought Cray Valley played very well,” said Lovell.

“We got the penalty early doors and took advantage of that but first half we had to defend very well and that’s what won us the game.

“We kept a clean sheet and as the game opened up in the second half we created chances and took them.

“They had two two or three very good players, who caused problems.

"Jordan and Josh got the goals but the pleasing thing for me was we kept a clean sheet and everybody put in a good shift defensively.”

Rams were missing injured captain Jake McIntyre and midfielder Lee Prescott against Cray Valley and while Ashley Miller wasn’t fit enough to start, he did make a late appearance from the bench.

TJ Jadama went off injured and will be assessed before the Brickies game.
