Tonbridge Angels winger Nick Wheeler signs contract extension taking him through to the end of next season

Nick Wheeler has signed a new deal at Tonbridge Angels.

The winger agreed a contract extension taking him through to the end of next season.

Boss Steve McKimm said: “I said when I signed my first contract it would allow me to talk to players because they knew who would be in charge.

“The club have faith in me and the players have faith in me. It didn’t take much persuasion to get Nick to sign.

“He’s done what he’s good at this season. If you allow wingers to play with freedom they produce the goods but he’s also got that work ethic I like.”

However striker Simon Thomas has been released after only a month.

Thomas scored with his first touch after joining from Needham Market in a 2-2 draw at Merstham in December.

But Angels needed to free up funds to sign a replacement for James Folks, who is sidelined with a back injury.

McKimm said: “It’s unfortunate Simon had to leave. He did well for us but he wasn’t going to get many games with the form Nathan Elder and Luke Blewden have been in."

Angels could have a new face in by the time they go to Ryman League Premier Division leaders Hampton & Richmond on Saturday.

Hampton have gone top after seven straight wins and are seven points clear of Tonbridge in fifth.
