Citi Terrace, Canterbury

Canterbury is one of Kent’s most picturesque destinations, so it’s hardly surprising that it likes to show off with a rooftop bar or two. Kicking off our list is Citi Terrace, just off the bustling high street and a short walk from the top sights such as the river and cathedral. If you want to be seen out and about with a cocktail in your hand this summer, then this contemporary hotspot is the place to be. The bar, restaurant and lounge boasts a relaxing rooftop terrace where you can enjoy a shisha with your choice of flavour. Don’t forget to sample their unique cuisine menu while you’re there, with plenty of choices from nachos and pizzas to Belgian waffles and cheesecakes.

The Lighthouse, Folkestone

This sophisticated champagne bar offers discerning drinkers a true taste of the high life. Found on the buzzing hub of Folkestone’s Harbour Arm, a charming seafront promenade brimming with independent businesses, The Lighthouse stands out as a literal beacon of the coastal town. With a menu of excellent Champagnes, English sparkling wines and fresh seafood, this is the perfect spot for a special night out with loved ones. As you take your seat atop the renovated and still-functioning lighthouse, you can look out from the end of the Harbour Arm to see the French coast, the White Cliffs of Dover and the endless sparkling sea. Whether it’s technically a rooftop bar is still up for debate, but it’s worth a visit for you to decide for yourself.

Market House, Maidstone

I did say there was more than one rooftop bar in Maidstone! When you’ve finished your shopping spree at Fremlin Walk or want a pre-theatre drink before heading to the Hazlitt Theatre, the Market House is waiting for you. This Shepherd Neame pub has an unsuspected hidden gem in its rooftop terrace - something you don’t often find in a traditional boozer. With plenty of outdoor seating, it’s a great spot to escape the busy high street and grab a pint and bite to eat in the peace and quiet. Tuck into robust pub grub or choose from tapas-style small plates for a true holiday feel, all while you watch the world go by.

Buoy and Oyster, Margate

It’s not quite a rooftop, but halfway there isn’t bad and, with its stunning views over one of Kent’s most beloved beaches, it’s still worth a mention. Rather than a rooftop, guests can sit out on the veranda overlooking Margate beach while the sea breeze blows and flavoursome fresh oysters are served to your table. There is also a specialist vegan menu for those who prefer a plant-based meal. If you’re not feeling peckish, you can always order yourself a handmade cocktail created by the trained cocktail bartenders. Since husband and wife team Simon and Nadine opened the restaurant and bar in 2015, it has become a top dining spot for both residents and visitors alike.

When: Monday to Sunday, 12pm to 9pm
