A299 Thanet Way near Whitstable closed after tree falls on car windscreen

A major route near Whitstable was closed after a tree fell onto a car, smashing the windscreen.

Police shut the London-bound carriageway of the A299 Thanet Way near the Fostall exit.

Motorists were told to avoid the area as there were long delays - with two miles of queuing traffic.

Traffic has now returned to normal as the debris has been removed.

The tree fell onto the car windscreen shortly before 11am today.

A post by Kent Police Specials shortly after 1pm said: "This driver had a lucky escape with no injuries."

A police spokesman confirmed the force was assisting at the scene of a fallen tree on the London-bound carriageway of the A299 Thanet Way near Whitstable.

"Officers were called to the scene at 10.50am following a report of a collision between a car and the tree," they said.

"No serious injuries have been reported."
