100-year-old takes to the skies to celebrate landmark birthday

A 100-year-old reached for the skies to celebrate her landmark birthday.

Age was definitely no barrier to Jean Burton-Brown of Wye who marked reaching her centenary by enjoying a glider flight.

Watched by friends she soared in the thermals high above Charing snugly strapped in a two-seater aircraft without an engine.

Smiling broadly and waving to spectators as a plane towed her to start her latest adventure, pilot Mike Moulang was very impressed.

As chairman of Kent Gliding Club at Challock, he was proud to have got their oldest ever passenger in the air.

On landing he said: “She was completely relaxed and even had a go at flying the craft.”

Miss Burton-Brown's first words after a perfect landing were: “Fantastic. A wonderful experience and I thank the pilot and everybody else enormously.”

See this week's Kentish Express for mopre pictures of her flight.
