Arrests as police swoop on 'brothel'

POLICE say they have responded to public concerns and taken steps to close down a suspected brothel in a Kent town.

A 43-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of managing a brothel under the Sexual Offences Act 2003 when Neighbourhood officers conducted a warrant at the address in Wellesley Road, Ashford, on Tuesday.

A 37-year-old man from the Ashford area was also arrested on suspicion of managing a brothel.

Both have been released on bail while officers make further enquiries.

Meanwhile, a 34-year-old woman from Peckham, South London, was arrested late on Tuesday night in connection with the same enquiry.

A second address in Lee Heights, Maidstone, was also subject of a warrant but no arrests were made.

Neighbourhood Sergeant, PS Kim Allcott, said: “The Neighbourhood Policing Team and CID began investigating this address after we received calls from concerned residents and we will continue to monitor this location and take any action that may be necessary.”
