Ashford travel to high-flying Merstham on Saturday and manager Steve Lovell is set to make changes in a bid to turn around the club’s fortunes.

A 5-1 defeat at Corinthian Casuals on Saturday leaves Ashford second bottom of the Ryman League, Division 1 South and Lovell is ready to act.

He said: "There are a few players who need to stand down and there are a couple waiting in the wings who deserve their chance. It’s an opportunity for them to show what they can do."

The Ashford boss wants his team to cut out the mistakes after individual errors proved costly at the weekend.

Lovell added: "You can’t make mistakes like that at any level because if you do you are going to be punished."

A recent injury to regular keeper Scott Chalmer-Stevens meant Darren Ibrahim was in goal last weekend but he is set to be replaced for the trip to Merstham.

Reserve keeper Dan Mason is likely to get the nod this time around.

Ashford were 4-0 down by half-time at Corinthian and eventually lost the match 5-1.

Lovell added: "When you start well and then go 1-0 down you end up trying to force it and try to do the difficult things rather than playing easy football and keeping it simple.

"It got worse and worse on Saturday."
