Bid to improve road safety near schools

PLANS to make safety improvements to roads close to two schools in the Ashford area have gone on display.

The proposals are in the early stages of development, but it is hoped the changes will make it easier and safer for children to bring their children to Kennington Church of England Junior School and Downs View County Infant School, Kennington.

The changes would mean speed cushions (large raised areas in the road) being put down in Ulley Road and The Street. Kent County Council displayed the plans at Downs View school.

It is hoped speeds will be reduced in an area which has been pin-pointed for speeding.

A report will be drawn up and put before the Joint Transport Board and plans will go before the public for a second time.
