Boy, 11, taken to William Harvey Hospital, Ashford, after being hit by car in Newtown Road, South Willesborough

An 11-year-old boy has been taken to hospital with a head injury after being hit by a car in Newtown Road, South Willesborough, Ashford.

The accident happened just before 3.30pm as hundreds of children across the town made their way home from school.

Police closed Newtown Road between the junctions with the A2042 Romney Marsh Road and Turner Close while emergency services dealt with the crash.

The boy was taken to the William Harvey Hospital after suffering cuts to his head, ambulance spokesman Rich Airey said.

A spokesman for Kent Police confirmed the incident and said: "Police received reports of a road traffic collision at about 3.30pm today (Tuesday) in Newtown Road, Ashford.

"It is believed a pedestrian and a vehicle were involved in the collision.

"A boy has been taken to a local hospital."
