Winless Ashford stay bottom of Shepherd Neame Kent League Division 1 following an emphatic 151- run defeat at Whitstable on Saturday.

Chasing 274 to win, the visitors slipped to 20-3, losing Gary Sutton and James Watson to successive deliveries, and Shannon Fattore soon joined them back in the pavilion.

Matt Lincoln (34) and Alex Watson (40) added 47 for the third wicket, before spinner Duncan Hardy had the latter stumped by Sam Denly.

The same bowler then removed Lincoln on his way to figures of 5-23, as Ashford slumped to 96-6, eventually all out for 122, inside 31 overs

Two century stands were the platform for Whitstable’s massive total. Former Wye player Max Campbell (60) put on 103 for the first wicket with Nadir Rasheed (39).

Then Sam Denly, elder brother of Kent opener Joe, blasted an unbeaten 88 of 81 balls, including six sixes and four fours as he and youngster Byron Gould added 113 for the second.

Gould (51) was third out with the total 220, but Denly continued to blast away, and despite Andrew Maurice claiming three wickets at the other end, Whitstable finished on 273-7.
