Fire crews battle to stop chimney collapsing

Firefighters had to deal with a chimney which was collapsing in Godinton Road, Ashford, on Saturday night.

They were called at 10.45pm by a neighbour of the house who heard bricks falling off the roof. The householder was out at the time.

It is thought frost may have got into cracks in the chimney in the cold weather, causing it to start to break up.

Fire crews spent an hour and a half making the chimney safe using a turntable ladder.
