Neil Cugley has urged the Folkestone Invicta faithful to keep believing in their side after they bowed out the FA Cup against Leiston.

Invicta fell to a 2-1 defeat in Suffolk in Tuesday’s replay but boss Cugley was left wondering ‘what if’ after Darren Smith missed a second-half penalty.

Cugley (pictured) said: "It’s a bitter blow. We got back into the game after going 1-0 down, then at 2-1 we had the chance to equalise and if we had scored the penalty, it would have been a different story.

"We had the momentum, they were tired and we would have gone on to win it.

"We’re not going to change anything, though – we haven’t got a Plan B. We’ll stick with the players we’ve got and we’ll have to hope they come good.

"We have to keep believing in them. These players got us into this league and we have to hope they are the ones who keep us in it."

Invicta host Concord Rangers on Saturday in the Ryman League, Premier Division, before travelling to AFC Hornchurch on Tuesday night.

Cugley said: "Two games in four days is a bit of a stretch, especially with our squad as it is at the moment. It’s a difficult league and they’ll be difficult games."

Rob Kember and Paul Jones will miss the next few games through injury while Liam Dickson is a doubt.
