After 11 weeks of roadworks and disruption the widening of Kennington Road is due to be re-opened tomorrow.

The work, which began in early June, was undertaken to widen the dangerous pinch point between the Blackwall Road North and the industrial area near Givaudan.

Other works have included resurfacing parts of the road, additional kerbing, ditch work and new pavements.

The three month closure has led to widespread disruption as well as additional traffic in and around the town.

However, now the road is nearly done, residents are becoming increasingly concerned that the “widened” road doesn’t look much wider than before.

The road is set to finally reopen tomorrow, however, the inconvenience in Ashford won’t be over just yet.

Another large traffic project will begin tomorrow to improve the Elwick Road and Station Road junction and to the crossing at Victoria Way and Avenue Jacques Faucheux.

Pedestrian crossings will be getting an upgrade, with push buttons added to the central reservations and the crossing points will be staggered.

At the Elwick Road/Station Road junction work will be undertaken to formalise the left lane, as you head north over the railway bridge, so you can only turn left onto Elwick Road.

The centre lane will be for traffic going straight on with the right hand lane being maintained for access to the station only.

The work is scheduled to take up to 12 weeks but with minimal disruption. No road closures will be necessary and traffic flow will be maintained with temporary traffic lights that mimic the existing phasing, to keep delays to a minimum.
