Fatal crash as driver hits tree on A251 near Ashford

A man has died after his car struck a tree.

The accident happened this morning on the A251 Faversham Road in Ashford between Boughton Lees and Trinity Road.

The driver of a red Mazda 6 estate car, who was in his 70s, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

Police are now appealing for witnesses who may have seen the accident at around 6.30am near the Eastwell Manor Hotel.

Officers from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) would also like to hear from anyone who might have dashcam or CCTV footage taken in the area around the time to come forward.

The crash closed the A251 for several hours. The road was re-opened at 1pm.

As far as police are aware, only one vehicle was involved in the accident.
