A puppy was killed in a blaze that gutted a house.

Police confirmed that the eight-month-old rottweiler died after the blaze broke out at the two-storey property at Stowell Close, Singleton,.

It happened just after 9.30pm on Friday and also led to one man having to be treated for smoke inhallation.

Crews wearing breathing apparatus tackled the blaze and a hydrant was also used.

A total three fire engines, two from Ashford and one from Charing, were called out and firefighters were at the scene for an hour.

Police said a 61-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of arson following the blaze and was bailed pending further inquiries.
