A shoulder injury has forced Olympic athlete Jack Green out of this weekend's UK Indoor Championships in Sheffield and ended his hopes of a place in TeamGB for next month's European Indoor Championships.

The 21-year-old Maidstone-born 400m runner suffered a dislocated shoulder at the Birmingham Grand Prix last Saturday, his first race of the season, and was forced to withdraw from this weekend's event at the English Institute of Sport on Thursday afternoon.

Green (pictured) said: "I have withdrawn from this weekend's trials after last week's shoulder problems.

"I'm very disappointed to have to withdraw but I'm hoping to run in Birmingham the following week once I'm 100%."

Green was hoping to secure a new indoor PB over 400m to secure one of three spots in the team for the Europeans in Gothenburg, Sweden.

He was also in line for a place in the 4x400m relay team.

The former Brockhill School, Hythe, and Mid-Kent College student has targeted the 400m at the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham on February 16 for a comeback.

Kent's Sean Molloy (800m), Shaunagh Brown and Scott Rider (shot put) and Dina Asher-Smith (60m and 200m) will compete in Sheffield this weekend.
