A man has been charged with a rape dating back 20 years.

Stanley Daniels, 56, appeared before Maidstone Magistrates court yesterday charged with rape.

Daniels, formerly of Blackbull Road, Folkestone was arrested in connection with the rape of an 18-year-old woman in Sandgate, Folkestone in October 1989.

He has been remanded until his next court appearance at Maidstone Crown Court on May 7.

The arrest came after officers in the Kent Police Cold Case Team relaunched the investigation, together with the Forensic Science Service.
