Warning of big funeral procession

KENT police say a large funeral procession will be making its way from Chart Road in Ashford to Charing crematorium on Monday (March 5) starting at 12.30pm.

The procession will contain a number of limousines and horse drawn carts, and a horse drawn hearse.

The proposed route is as follows:

Chart Road, Cuckoo Lane, Knoll Lane, Stanhope Road (the procession will pause fore one minute outside The Nelson public house), continue along Stanhope Road to mini roundabout and turn right, left at junction into Kingsnorth Road.

It will then turn left at the traffic lights into Beaver Lane, Brookfield Road, up to Matalan roundabout, right into Chart Road (A28) to TA roundabout, under railway arch and follow A292 to roundabout, into New Street, onto one way system Ashford town centre, back onto New Street, across roundabout and onto the A292, Maidstone Road to Charing.

A police spokeswoman said: "The size of the procession may cause congestion in the town centre, and Ashford police are advising drivers of this possibility."
