Work starts to refurbish road bridge

Work has started to refurbish the the bridge over the M20 in Canterbury Road, Ashford.

The repairs on the A28 are due to be completed by mid June.

The works will renew the current parapets on the bridge which will protect the structure from an impact by a vehicle. The safety barriers on the approach to the bridge will also be upgraded.

The Highways Agency says both measures will ensure the ongoing safety of road users on the bridge.

For the safety of road users and the workforce there will be some overnight single lane running with a 50mph speed restriction on the London-bound and coastbound carriageway of the M20 on approach to and just past the works.

There will also be overnight lane closures with traffic lights on the A28 when works are on the bridge deck.

The Highways Agency says: “The completed bridge will be fully strengthened against any impact from a vehicle. These are part of our ongoing commitment to improve road users safety on Kent roads. We thank drivers for their patience whilst these works are carried out and would ask drivers to allow extra time for their journeys.”
