KENT-born cyclist Jamie Staff won his third Commonwealth Games medal as a member of England’s sprint team on Sunday.

Staff, a former BMX rider who now lives in California, took the silver medal with team-mates Jason Queally and Matthew Crampton, beaten by just 0.037sec by Scotland in a thrilling final in Melbourne.

Staff, who was born in Ashford, had previously won silver and bronze medals in different disciplines in the Manchester games four years ago.

However, he finished only sixth in the keirin cycling event in Melbourne, the discipline in which he won a World Championship gold in 2004.
