Margate waiting for news on Brighton loan striker Daniel Akindayini's ankle injury

Margate loanee Daniel Akindayini has returned to Brighton for treatment on a damaged ankle.

The 20-year-old striker was replaced at half-time in the 3-2 Vanarama National South win at Chelmsford on Saturday.

Boss Nikki Bull said: “He has gone back to have the injury properly assessed, and I am keeping in regular contact with John Morling, the Head of Youth Development about him.

“He was injured against Basingstoke the week before, trained with Brighton last Wednesday, was with us on Thursday, and looked good to go, but was running with a bit of a limp after 25 minutes so we took him off."

Akindayini will miss the home game against Eastbourne Borough on Tuesday and Bull will check on his recovery ahead of the trip to Sutton on Saturday.

The win at Chelmsford pushed Gate to the cusp of the play-offs albeit having played two or three games more than some of their rivals.

Gosport (fourth) host seventh placed Darts, while Oxford City (eighth) are due at Maidenhead.

Truro's trip to Concord Rangers is already off.

Bull said of Eastbourne: "They are a big threat going forward. I saw them draw 4-4 at Hayes, and they have been involved in some high scoring games."

Jamie Taylor’s loan spell at Eastbourne is due to expire on Thursday, but he won't be involved on Tuesday night.

Bull plans to speak to the Crawley based striker at the game, with the Sussex club keen to extend his stay.

Meanwhile hopes of bringing in another striker have been dashed.

He said: “We couldn’t compete financially and he has gone elsewhere.”
