Kent golfer Paul Sherman is the new PGA South Region captain, after being selected for the role by the South Region committee.

The 35-year-old from Ashford started in his new position on April 1 and will continue until the end of 2009.

“I’m very honoured to have been chosen for the role,” Sherman said. “It is a very prestigious role to be asked to do.

“I wasn’t expecting it, but I’m starting to get used to the idea and looking forward to fulfilling the position.”

The captaincy is passed around the South Region members on a biennial basis, meaning a Kent pro fulfils the role once every 10 years.
