Huge warehouse fire at Viking Way industrial estate, Erith

A fire has torn through warehouses near the River Thames.

At its height 100 firefighters and more than 15 vehicles were at the scene in Viking Way, Erith.

They battled the blaze for several hours, eventually getting it under control at around 11.30pm having arrived on the scene just after 6pm.

Crews kept a watching brief throughout the night and dampen down the area.

Several businesses are based in that part of the industrial state but the flames seemed to be initially focused around cash and carry UK Fine Food Suppliers.

Aerial images show how it took hold throughout a giant unit.

At one point teams had to remove explosive gas cannisters from inside.

No one was injured in the fire and the cause is not yet known.

Crews from Erith, Bexley, Plumstead, East Greenwich, Sidcup and other surrounding fire stations attended the scene.
