Care home evacuated after fire at hairdressers in Woolwich Road, Bexleyheath

More than 60 firefighters have been called to a blaze at a hairdressers inside a care home.

The home was evacuated and a large emergency service presence can be seen in Woolwich Road, Bexleyheath.

Multiple ambulance vehicles have also lined and blocked the street while the fire, which started at around 11.26am, is dealt with.

A London Fire Brigade spokesman said: "Eight fire engines and around 60 firefighters tackled a fire at a property in Woolwich Road.

"A small fire occurred in a hairdressers inside a care home. Heavy smoke logging was reported on the ground floor.

"Four people were rescued from the building by firefighters wearing breathing apparatus. Three further people were led to safety by firefighters.

"Several people have been treated for smoke inhalation by London Ambulance Service crews. Around 30 people left the building before firefighters arrived."

The blaze was under control just after 1pm, but crews still remain at the scene.

The cause of the fire is unknown.
