Kent Police appeal for driver to come forward after elderly man injured in ambulance crash in New Dover Road near Roman Road in Canterbury

Police want to speak to a driver after a pensioner was seriously hurt in a crash involving an ambulance.

The 88-year-old man was injured after his blue Volvo collided with a silver Ford Fiesta in New Dover Road, Canterbury at 2pm on Thursday.

An ambulance car responding to a 999 call then smashed head-on into the man's Volvo between the A2 and Old Dover Road roundabout.

He was left with "serious" arm and leg injuries, but is now recovering in hospital in a stable condition.

The female paramedic suffered shoulder pain, and was taken to the William Harvey Hospital in Ashford.

Emergency crews including two ambulances and two more response cars rushed to the scene.

Police closed the road in both directions near the Old Gate Inn pub while the cause of the crash was investigated.

Diversions were put in place and drivers were advised to avoid the area as tailbacks stretched back to the city centre.

Detectives have now appealed for the driver of a light blue vehicle that was overtaken by the ambulance car just before the crash to come forward.
