A police helicopter circled Faversham last night after reports of a burglary at a disused care home.

Deserted Ambleside, in Love Lane, is due to be ripped down later in the year.

But the former residential home became a crime scene after torchlight was spotted streaming from its windows.

Police were called and attended the scene with dogs and a helicopter was also used to locate the suspects.

Two local men, aged 22 and 20, were arrested on suspicion of burglary.

Police spokesman Glenn Pearson said: “Officers were called at 10.15pm on Monday, January 7 to reports of a burglary in progress at a property on Ambleside in Faversham.

“Torchlight was seen coming from the disused residential home, which is apparently due for demolition.

“Response and neighbourhood officers were called and the police helicopter scrambled to locate the suspects.

“Both men were detained and a 22-year-old and a 20-year-old, both from Faversham, have been arrested on suspicion of burglary. They are currently in custody and are due to be interviewed.”
