Body found in flat blaze tragedy

FIRE officials are investigating the cause of a blaze at a flat in which one person, believed to be a woman, died.

The blaze started this morning in the kitchen of the first-floor purpose built apartment in Hudson Road in Canterbury.

Firefighters received a call just before 10am and broke down the door to gain entry.

Sub officer Sheridan Hudson-Peacock said they could see the flames through the glass door panels.

A crew wearing breathing apparatus went inside the flat and found the blaze in the kitchen. They put it out within 10 minutes.

It is not known how the fire started and police and fire officials are investigating the cause.
