Alabama 3 Acoustic to perform at Canterbury charity concert to raise money for Go For Gold cancer campaign

Grinning two-year-old Darcie Kay is a picture of health and happiness after beating an aggressive cancer.

It has driven her family to fundraise for charity and support a concert at Canterbury High School, headlined by Alabama 3 Acoustic.

Darcie’s mum Natalie, 32, of Manciple Close, Canterbury, said: “Cancer has blighted our family, but it just makes us more determined to do what we can.

"Fortunately, Darcie is now nearly two years in remission and doing great and has started at nursery school, which she loves.”

Natalie and husband Michael are helping to organise the family entertainment for the gig in the school hall on Saturday, October 18, which has a line-up of top performers and is in aid of the Go for Gold children’s cancer campaign.

It has been planned by Gordon McDonald, who met the Kay family through Facebook.

He is a friend of Alabama 3 Acoustic, the band which performed the theme music to cult TV series The Sopranos and wins rave reviews for their live gigs. Also on the bill are Marley Blandford, The Involved, Kenny Mulligan and Jake Black.

Community care worker and mum-of-four Natalie is helping to arrange some of the family attractions, including a bouncy castle, face painting and children’s characters.

She said: “Gordon has put together a great line-up and we hope to sell lots of tickets for the Go For Gold cancer campaign.

"We will also be doing a mass gold balloon release with the names of other sick children from families I have come into contact with through Darcie’s illness.

“But we would still like to hear form any local companies who can support us or offer raffle prizes. They can contact me on 07970 195615.”

The concert starts at midday and entry is on the door with single adult tickets costing £15 and a family ticket £25. But the family attractions outside the hall are free.
