Four tries in the final 15 minutes condemned Canterbury to a 45-8 National League 2 South defeat against Old Albanians at Merton Lane on Saturday.

They trailed by only four points at half-time but the City club were swept aside after the interval.

Tom Best converted the second of two penalty chances early in the game, but it was the only time Canterbury were ahead, and the lead lasted only five minutes.

Albanians scored two tries and kicked a conversion to forge 12-3 ahead, before Best’s clever footwork and score capped Canterbury’s best spell of the game just before half-time.

However, any hopes of a comeback were dashed four minutes after the re-start when Albanians scored again, and they pressed home their advantage with four more tries, all of which were converted.
