Cars burnt out

Two cars have been burnt out after its thought they were deliberately torched in the early hours of the morning.

Firefighters were called to the St Stephen’s Road area of Canterbury at 1.45am on Tuesday.

The crew were unable to squeeze the fire engine down the narrow side road where the cars were on fire, so had to run a hose from the main road.

The cars were ablaze close to some properties, although the surrounding buildings were not damaged.

Watch manager Brian Deverill said: "It could have been a lot worse and it is lucky that no one was injured and the nearby houses were not damaged.

"Residents didn’t have to be evacuated.

"The cars are complete write-offs and have been badly damaged."

Firefighters spent an hour putting out the fires.

Police officers were also sent to the scene and are currently investigating.
