Canterbury: Stuart Taylor jailed for robbery

A 29-year-old who robbed a man while carrying a knife has been jailed for four and a half years.

Stuart Taylor, of no fixed address, told the court how when he was walking home he had a "crazy idea" to steal money from the person standing at a cash point in Canterbury on November 19, 2017.

He admitted possessing a knife and carrying out the robbery outside the Sainsbury's Local in St Dunstan's Street.

CCTV footage showed him grabbing the money and dropping the eight-inch blade.

Several bystanders also witnessed the attack, which knocked both men to the ground.

It took three people, including a security guard, to detain Taylor until police arrived to arrest him and seize the knife.

He was sentenced at Canterbury Crown Court on Friday, March 23.

DC Peter Emanuel said: "Taylor’s violent and spontaneous outburst could have seriously hurt the victim.

"He has clearly shown he is a threat to the public and continued to be aggressive after he was detained.

"No one should ever have to look over their shoulder in fear of people like him and I hope this sentence reassures the public that we won’t tolerate violent crime."
