Death crash closes Ashford to Canterbury road

A motorcyclist knocked down by a car whose occupants fled the scene has died.

The middle-aged man suffered life-threatening injuries when he was hit on the A28 Canterbury-Ashford road at 5am today (Monday).

South Kent Police have since confirmed that the motorcyclist died from his injuries at William Harvey Hospital.

South Kent Police spokesman Rosy Alexander said: “The driver and passenger of the car left the scene and are being actively sought by officers.

“It is thought one may have sustained an injury which requires treatment.”

The vehicles involved were a 50cc motorcycle and a Ford Fiesta.

The car driver is a male but there are so far no further details concerning him and the passenger.

Kent Police’s Serious Crash Investigation Unit attended the accident and the road was closed for several hours.
