Town’s preparations were wrecked by an accident en route to the Sussex coast which delayed the kick-off by 30 minutes as the Town squad and some home players, were stuck in traffic.

Turner eventually arrived at the ground just 30 minutes before the game started and with the Town kit delayed, the Lilywhites played the game wearing the Rocks’ blue away strip and went down to goals early on and in the final 10 minutes.

Town boss Turner said: “The whole thing was a nightmare. Bognor were good about it but we didn’t have a warm-up and had to start with a bare 11.

“Three of my intended starters didn’t get there until after 8.30pm and although I brought two on at half-time, I couldn’t risk making all three changes then in case we picked up an injury.”

He added: “I’m not making excuses, in the end we did all right.

“I was disappointed with the goal in the first half but in the second half we had a good spell but just couldn’t cause any damage in the final third and in the end they broke well for their second goal late-on.”

Town now sit 12th in the table ahead of the visit of Dulwich Hamlet, who were overtaken at the top of the table by Bognor on Tuesday night.

Turner said: “We’ll need another performance like we put in against Maidstone (last week) if we are to get anything but we know we are capable of that."
