Faversham manager Ray Turner says Tuesday night’s 2-0 win over Hastings United was his side’s best pre-season performance so far.

Luke Harvey scored his first goal for the club, since moving from Herne Bay and another new signing Antonio Gonnella was also on the scoresheet against the Ryman League, Premier Division outfit from Sussex.

Turner (pictured) said: “I was pleased, people are understanding their roles in the side and it feels as if we are now beginning to build a bit of momentum.

“It was our strongest team display against a side from a higher division.

“Ashley Brown had his first 90 minutes in the game but we were still without three players – Nick Davis, Toby Ashmore and Wayne Wilson, who were away on holiday, while Renford Tenyue is nursing an Achilles injury.

Adrian Stone, Danny Lawrence – his first goal since also moving from Bay – Tenyue and youngster Keiron Oliver netted in the 4-0 win against Faversham Harlequin, part of a charity fundraising for the local Carnival Club at Salters Lane on Saturday.

Turner added: “Keiron has a lot of pace and skill and made a real impact when he came on.”

“It was a good day on and off the pitch. We are trying do a lot of things at the club and raised quite a lot of money as well.”

Faversham lost 1-0 against Erith & Belvedere last Thursday and Turner said: “It was another good

work-out against a side who were a bit ahead of us in terms of preparation with the Kent League season starting this week.”

Turner takes his side to Kent Invicta League Hollands & Blair on Saturday and added: “It will be a test because they are a team with good individuals.

“I want to fine tune things in the rest of pre-season as we move closer to our first league game in just over two weeks.”

Turner has released former England Schoolboy international Michael Scott, after being unable to offer the player regular first team football.
