England under-18 international Jordan ‘Tunji’ Agbaje has signed for his hometown club Herne Bay.

The former Bay under-16 striker started his youth career at Chelsea before moving to Stoke City two years ago.

But Agbaje, who played for England under-18s last year, has now decided to return home, much to the delight of Herne Bay manager Simon Halsey (pictured).

He said: "Tunji got in touch with the club to say he wanted to come and play for us, so he came training last week and then played for the reserves against Margate on Saturday, when he scored in the first minute.

"Stoke had offered him another year’s contract but he got fed up playing reserve team football and his target is to try and earn a first team place with a Championship or League 1 side.

"He wants to put himself in the shop window playing for us and, however long that turns out to be, we are delighted to have him and I’m sure he’s going to be a big asset."

Agbaje’s acquisition tops a productive past week or so for the Bay manager who has also brought in Dan Wisker, Sean Raggett and Rob Storrie.

Bay will be looking to make it three victories in a row at Corinthian Casuals on Saturday and, with Ryman League, Division 1 South pacesetters Crawley Down Gatwick in FA Trophy action this weekend, victory would move Halsey’s side to within one point of the leaders.
