Opener Joe Denly is believed to be considering Kent’s offer of a new contract.

Denly (pictured), who is out of contract at the end of the season, would not comment on the progress of negotiations about a new deal.

But he admitted: "I have got a lot to think about over the next couple of weeks or so.

"I still want to re-ignite my chances of playing for England again and have to look at where the best place is for me to do that."

Speculation exists that as many as four counties are watching Denly’s situation with interest.

The 25-year-old, who has played nine one-day internationals for England, had a contract offer withdrawn by the county in March.

But with just weeks of the season remaining, Kent will be keen to tie the opener down to a new deal.

Denly has scored 599 first-class runs in 22 innings this season at an average of 28.52.

He did show a return to form on Friday, however, with a 68-ball century in the tour match against India at Canterbury.
