Does anyone know of a site big enough to hold a circus?

That is the plea from promoters of the Moscow State Circus which faces cancelling its dates in Canterbury later this year.

It can no longer use the field at Kingsmead, which is being built on, while the promoters looked at Victoria Rec but believe it is unsuitable.

Circus manager Paul Archer said: “Unless something is sorted out soon it would appear that we will not be able to come.

“What worries me is it is looking as though the larger circuses will never be able to perform in Canterbury again.”

The circus was scheduled to come to the city between October 15 and 19.
